We would like to welcome Dr. Zachary Hawes (Assistant Professor, Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto), to the CPIN Program.
Dr. Hawes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, where he leads the Mathematical Thinking Lab. Dr. Hawes’s primary research interests involve studying the relation between spatial thinking and mathematics (and the other STEM disciplines) and how to use this knowledge to design more accessible and engaging learning opportunities. Dr. Hawes’s work in cognitive neuroscience examines the neural underpinnings of mathematical and spatial thought. He also works towards creating stronger bridges between cognitive neuroscience and education and serves as an Associate Editor for the journal Mind, Brain, and Education. Dr. Hawes received his PhD in Cognitive, Developmental, and Brain Sciences from Western University.
