We would like to welcome Dr. Tim Corson (Full Professor, Graduate Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Toronto) to the CPIN Program.
Dr. Corson completed HonBSc, MSc, and PhD degrees at the University of Toronto and a postdoctoral fellowship in chemical biology at Yale University. He established his lab at Indiana University School of Medicine where he rose through the ranks to be Full Professor and Vice-Chair for Basic and Translational Research in the Department of Ophthalmology before being named Chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the same institution. He relocated to be a Professor in the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at U of T in 2024. The Corson laboratory's research focuses on identifying and characterizing new therapeutic targets for ocular diseases and development of small molecule therapies. In particular, the group studies neovascular eye diseases such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, and the ocular tumor retinoblastoma. They have identified multiple potential therapeutic targets, dissected mechanisms, and developed novel molecules in collaboration with chemists. Dr. Corson has published nearly 90 papers and is an inventor on 11 patents. His research is currently funded by the US National Institutes of Health, the Retina Research Foundation, and the Macular Society, and he has been an invited speaker at research institutions and conferences on five continents.
