Sex & Gender Differences Competitive Fellowship Awardee
Quinn Pauli is a fourth-year PhD student in the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, working under the supervision of Dr. Rob Bonin. She completed her undergraduate degree at McMaster University in Honours Physics Co-op in 2020, and then decided to merge her interests in biophysics and neuroscience by pursuing a PhD. Using inspiration from the lab's ongoing work on the mechanisms of pain-related plasticity in the spinal cord, her project is focused on how forgetting is regulated in the brain at the cellular level. By using a combination of electrophysiological and behavioural techniques in mice, she aims to elucidate the plastic mechanisms underlying different types of forgetting and explore potential sex-mediated effects on these processes. Ultimately, she hopes that this research will inform the development of new targeted therapeutics and any sex and gender considerations for treating memory-related disorders including posttraumatic stress disorder.
