Kayla is a second-year Ph.D. student with the Institute of Medical Science and Collaborative Program in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto, where her research focuses on studying how the brainstem controls respiratory rhythms and how these brainstem breathing centers are targeted by drugs to cause respiratory depression. Previously, Kayla completed her Master's in Neuroscience at Carleton University where she studied the hypothalamic dopamine circuits. In addition to her studies, Kayla is the co-director of community outreach with the St. Michael's Hospital Research Student Association and has been a member of the organizing committees for the Toronto Brain Bee and CPIN Research Day.
