Joie (Zhengwei) is a driven doctoral student in the Department of Physiology at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine. Her research is centered around ischemic brain injury and neuroprotection, with the aim of advancing understanding and developing novel therapeutic interventions against ischemic stroke.
Joie completed her bachelor's degree in Neuroscience at the University of Toronto before pursuing her doctoral studies. Throughout her academic journey, she has been recognized with several awards, including the Mary H. Beatty Fellowship, Hilda and William Courtney Clayton Paediatric Research Fund, and Temerty Faculty of Medicine PPEF award. Since commencing the Ph.D. program, Joie has contributed to nine peer-reviewed publications and has actively presented her findings at national and local conferences.
For the past seven years, Joie has volunteered for the CPIN science outreach program called Toronto Brain Bee, a neuroscience competition for high-school students. As a leading member of the 'question team,' Joie collaboratively contributes to the successful organization of annual events that engage and inspire hundreds of students. Moreover, as an international student, Joie has helped to coordinate the China-Canada-USA Pharmacology and Physiology Conference.
Joie would like to thank her supervisors, Dr. Hong-Shuo Sun and Dr. Zhong-Ping Feng, her committee members, Dr. Shuzo Sugita and Dr. Jeff Henderson, and the amazing members of the Feng/Sun lab!
