Congratulations to CPIN student member Omar Khalil (Dentistry, supervised by Dr. Massieh Moayedi) on completing the CPIN requirements and graduating from his MSc program. Omar completed his master’s degree in the Moayedi Lab at the Faculty of Dentistry, where his thesis focused on the computational dynamics of learning and how pain uniquely shapes learning processes. During his time as an MSc student, he co-authored two research articles, attended the World Congress on Pain in Amsterdam and the Canadian Pain Society meetings in Ottawa and Toronto, and presented his research at CPS Toronto. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the Canadian Graduate Scholarship – Master's and the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain Scientist Award. Concurrently, Omar was part of the McAndrews Lab at Toronto Western Hospital, where he expanded his passion for neuroscience by studying the functional development of language in adolescents and cognitive abilities in epilepsy populations using various MRI modalities. Alongside his research, he served as co-director of the Saturday Program, a mentorship initiative providing high school students in the Greater Toronto Area with academic support and guidance from university mentors. Omar is now a medical student at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, where he continues to develop his research skills with the goal of applying them in the future as a clinician.
