Congratulations to Dr. Jessi Teich

CPIN Trainee News, Program Completion
Dr. Jessica Teich

Congratulations to CPIN student member Dr. Jessica (Jessi) Teich (Music and Health Sciences, supervised by Dr. Michael Thaut) on completing the CPIN requirements and graduating from her PhD program. Dr. Jessica (Jessi) Teich is a board-certified and accredited music therapist (MT-BC, MTA) and a Neurologic Music Therapy® Fellow (NMT-F™). She recently completed her PhD in Music and Health Sciences at the University of Toronto’s Music and Health Sciences Research Collaboratory (MaHRC), under the supervision of Dr. Michael Thaut. Her doctoral research examined spontaneous music making as an access point to a spontaneous non-verbal language system and investigated the effects of Neurologic Music Therapy® (NMT) sensorimotor applications on motor coordination in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), contributing to the growing body of knowledge on sensorimotor synchronization and timing in neurodevelopmental conditions. During her time as a CPIN student, Dr. Teich published multiple peer-reviewed papers, co-authored two chapters in the Oxford Handbook of Neurologic Music Therapy (2nd ed.), and presented her work at several international conferences. She received multiple awards, including the Graduate Professional Development Fund, the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Conference Grant, and the University of Toronto Doctoral Completion Award. Dr. Teich also held a leadership role, mentoring and supervising emerging clinicians and scholars in music and health research. Her interdisciplinary work bridges neuroscience, music, and clinical application to advance evidence-based approaches supporting neurodivergent and neurologically complex populations.
