Kathlyn Gan

We would like to welcome Dr. Kathlyn Gan (Assistant Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, University of Toronto Scarborough), to the CPIN Program. Prof. Kathlyn Gan earned her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from Simon Fraser University and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience at Stanford University. She studies molecular pathways that regulate synapse formation and function and harnesses them to restore neuronal connectivity in the aging brain. In particular, her lab is investigating how specific regenerative factors, found enriched in young blood, promote synapse formation and function in human neurons. Prof. Gan is also a classical pianist who enjoys performing in the community and contemplating the intersection of neuroscience and music.
