We would like to welcome Dr. Jimmy Fraigne (Assistant Professor, Department of Cell & Systems Biology, University of Toronto) to the CPIN Program. Dr. Jimmy Fraigne is an Assistant Professor (Teaching Stream) in the Department of Cell & Systems Biology at the University of Toronto and specializes in sleep neurobiology and circuit neuroscience. His research aims to determine how neural circuits control sleep and motor behaviour. His main research questions focus on how the nervous system couples arousal with the appropriate motor behaviour, and how REM sleep is generated. His research also focuses on how specific neural circuits underlie neurodegenerative diseases (i.e., Narcolepsy, Synucleinopathies, and Alzheimer's). Dr. Fraigne is passionate about teaching both undergraduate and graduate students. His pedagogy focuses on promoting scientific literacy and critical thinking skills through active learning. His interests include experiential learning, computational & data science, AI-assisted coding, sleep equity, and inclusive learning environments.
