We are proud to share that Dr. Melanie Woodin, a valued member of the Collaborative Program in Neuroscience faculty, has been appointed the 17th President of the University of Toronto — and notably, the first woman to hold this role in the institution’s nearly 200-year history.
A distinguished neuroscientist and current Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science, Dr. Woodin will begin her presidency on July 1st, 2025, succeeding President Meric Gertler. In her inaugural remarks, she acknowledged the challenges facing higher education today — from constrained funding to threats to academic freedom — but emphasized her commitment to leading with ambition and optimism.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Woodin on this historic and well-deserved appointment. CPIN is honored to count her among our faculty and looks forward to her visionary leadership at the university’s helm.
