Congratulations to CPIN Faculty Dr. Philippe Monnier (Professor, PSL, right) and CPIN Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Alireza Shabanzadeh (Postdoctoral Fellow, PSL, left) on their recent publication titled “Inhibition of proprotein convertase SKI-1 prevents blood vessel alteration after stroke” in Nature Cardiovascular Research (PMID: 40858841). The study reports that inhibiting the proprotein convertase SKI-1 prevents vascular destabilization after ischemic stroke, offering a potential therapeutic approach to preserve blood–brain barrier integrity and improve microvascular outcomes. This work builds on ongoing efforts to understand endothelial dysfunction after CNS injury and to identify targets that strengthen neurovascular resilience. The study also describes a mechanism in which SKI-1–dependent cleavage of RGMa enables its interaction with Neogenin to impair vessel integrity; blocking this pathway protects tissue and brain function.
