Congratulations to CPIN student member Edgardo Torres-Carmona (Institute of Medical Sciences, supervised by Dr. Ariel Graff-Guerrero and Dr. Philip Gerretsen) on completing the CPIN requirements and graduating from his PhD program. Edgardo Torres-Carmona, PhD, completed his doctoral training in the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto and the Collaborative Program in Neuroscience, conducting his research at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) under the supervision of Dr. Ariel Graff-Guerrero and Dr. Philip Gerretsen. His work focused on identifying neurobiological markers of treatment resistance in schizophrenia using multimodal brain imaging and machine-learning approaches. In collaboration with research groups in Japan and Mexico, Edgardo established a multi-site neuroimaging repository and developed predictive models based on cortical morphology that show potential for earlier clinical identification of treatment resistance. He has also made this resource freely available to support open and reproducible science, contributing to ongoing advances in precision psychiatry. During his PhD, Edgardo published multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts on advanced cortical morphological measures and presented his work at international conferences as well as to a federal scientific agency. Throughout his training, he mentored undergraduate and graduate trainees and contributed to collaborative projects bridging neuroimaging, machine learning, and clinical psychiatry. Edgardo is committed to advancing translational neuroscience to improve patient care in severe mental illness.
